move 4: Flamethrower

tera type: Steel / Fairy

  • Scovillain has a simple gameplan, which is to get free switch-ins on defensive Pokemon or Choice item Pokemon, set up a Substitute, and stack boosts with the combination of Protect and Leech Seed until Flamethrower can sweep.
  • Tera Steel removes all of Scovillain's weaknesses and is a great all around defensive typing against threats like Iron Bundle, while Tera Fairy is better at taking on Miraidon using Dragon Pulse, Chien-Pao using Crunch, or Chien-Pao and Kingambit using Sucker Punch to try and revenge kill if it's chipped itself with Substitute.
  • Scovillain typically cannot break through a whole team alone even with Terastallization, so it should usually be saved for later in the game when it gets easier set up opportunities after its partners have worn down the opposing team.
  • Gothitelle is an excellent teammate, dealing with Ting-Lu by using Trick and Toxapex with Psychic, two of the biggest walls for Scovillain.
  • Choice Band Koraidon is also very helpful, baiting Toxapex and Skeledirge with a Tera Fire Flare Blitz to 2HKO and open up a Moody sweep later. Choice Band Chien-Pao or sun sweepers like Chi-Yu and Walking Wake are effective for similar reasons of baiting in defensive Pokemon and softening a team for Scovillain.
